Trying to bring their dead mother back through the forbidden act of human transmutation, the Elric brothers pay for it: Edward loses a leg and an arm, and Alphonse loses his entire body. With his brother's soul bound to a suit of armour, Edward takes the State Alchemist title of Fullmetal and sets out after the Philosopher's Stone to restore what they lost. What the two of them walk into is a conspiracy of Homunculi with their hands on the roots of the country itself.
