Ten years ago, when her home planet of Kantaros was wiped out by the Blasters, Maya fled to Earth carrying a living metal. Her son with Dr. Hoshi, a boy named Kantaro, is the only one who can merge with Ganger, the giant robot born from that metal, a machine with a will of its own. When the Blasters turn to Earth as their next target and nobody will believe the doctor's warnings, the boy and the robot go to war.
